Bio
My life story so far isn't very interesting. I'm probably your typical middle class English girl, brought up in the countryside on books, classical music and frilly dresses. I went through the compulsory phase of Angsty Teenager but, overall, I can't really complain about how things are going. I've been called spoiled and a snob, mainly by people who are worse off. Maybe they're right. Maybe they're just jealous. If I am either of those things, it's because of how I was treated as a child. Contrary to popular belief, I'm pretty self-sufficient and I don't like receiving help from anyone, including my family.
I'm self-contradictory, a hybrid of opposites, a girl of many talents and a jack of all trades. I adapt to situations and act accordingly, depending on what I want. I know how to get on with people in general, but I am something of a misanthropist. I very much prefer my own company, but I won't deny that there are some wonderful individuals out there.
You can trust me. I don't gossip or tell secrets. I might just use your secrets against you if you piss me off, that's all. I like helping even strangers, and I consider myself to be a fair and impartial person, which is largely because I don't get emotionally involved in things. I'm picky about who I call a 'friend'. Many people are put off because I often seem detached and self-absorbed. If you're looking for warmth and affection, I'm not the right person. But believe it or not, that doesn't mean I don't care.
As for the more mundane things, I live in a country cottage not far from where I spent my childhood. I lived in the city for two years but I'm still a country girl at heart. I'm at university, studying Religions and Theology. I get to meet all kinds of batshit insane people whilst learning to feign tolerance for their batshit insane ideas. I don't have a definite career path in mind. I really want to move to rural Scotland within the next few years and I will do whatever I need to do to get there.
I've been playing piano since I was 4. I've been singing for as long as I can remember, and started taking lessons in 2007; I wanted to pursue a career in opera but decided that I didn't want that level of commitment, nor two expensive years in music college. Now I just sing for leisure. I also study music theory and occasionally write music myself.
I support the Manchester Phoenix hockey team and I love them with a passion. On match nights, I'm a volunteer, working on the merchandise desk. Hockey is the only thing about which I am unashamedly emotional, loyal and self-sacrificing. I'm an ex-cheerleader, an ex-dancer of various kinds and a martial artist on hiatus. I hold a blue belt in Taekwondo and a yellow sash in XMA. I'm not as athletic as it sounds, I promise. I'm worryingly unfit, in fact.
I have a myriad of random, relatively simple indulgences that I enjoy. I like spending money. I like deep conversations and light-hearted debates. I like sitting in coffee houses on rainy days with a hot chocolate and a good book. I like cuddling up on the sofa with my cat and some sewing. I like candlelit bubble baths. I like big, epic music played live and loud. I like solitude and silence. I like movies with senseless violence and excessive gore. I appreciate beauty, whether it's a beautiful person or a breathtaking view.
I have lots of other casual interests that are all over the place at the moment, but will perhaps become focused at some point. I want to live my life to the full for as long as possible. I never want to grow up. I'm an experience junkie; I want to try lots of different things. I don't waste time on regrets. I accept responsibility for my actions. I sometimes learn from my mistakes. What doesn't kill you only makes you stronger.
